Fak'ugesi Poster Design Competition

Brief and Submission Requirements

First Poster Design Concept
My first thought for this poster concept was to have Africa to look like the game Tetris. The game Tetris has a concept of placing one block on top of one another creating and building one unified block. I was planning on making this poster have Africa built up in the same exact way the game Tetris is played.
Second Poster Design Concept
My first idea for this poster concept was to create and build a concept into African culture as well as world culture which we are not used to seeing. That is having females on our own currencies. I feel that if we create a currency with a females face on top of it, we will be building a future for this country and for the world.

Justin Solomon Fak’ugesi Gif Poster Design Rationale
For the Fak’ugesi African Innovative Design Festival Poster Competition, I decided to take a rather unique look at the Fak’ugesi Festival slogan #BuildCozYouHaveTo. My interpretation of the motto inspired my design choices towards “PC builds”, computer engineering and the art of architecture. Furthermore, the term “PC build” refers to the parts and accessories which make up the entire assembly of a personal computer. I was inspired by the word “build” in the slogan to create a building which was entirely made up of computer components. The building itself is a PC tower/body. The bricks that make up the front of the building were motivated by RGB keyboard lighting and their fluid movement. I incorporated the design of the keyboard caps in the title of the poster. The colour choices that were provided to us from Fak’ugesi are very similar to my personal favorite colour palette. I used the Fak’ugesi pattern to enhance the theme of PC circuit boards throughout my poster. Moreover, just as circuit boards connect the power throughout a operating system, the pattern has linked my design choices together. The PC accessories on the right side of the building, were rearranged to boost the idea of the “PC build” looking like an architectural structure. For instance, the PC fans formulate the buildings air-conditioning extractors. The architect who is observing the building will inspire future designers, to build together, build for Africa, and build for the future.
